Oracle Technology Price List and License costs

A guide into reading Oracle Technology Price list

This article is not an Oracle technology price list, but simply a way for how you learn how to read Oracle official price list and calculate pricing for your Oracle purchase.

How to Calculate Oracle License Prices with Oracle Technology Price List

  1. First, familiarize yourself with the different Oracle Database editions available: Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition 2, Personal Edition, Mobile Server, and NoSQL Database Enterprise Edition.
  2. Open the Oracle Technology Price List and find the edition you are interested in purchasing.
  3. Determine the number of processor licenses you will need by applying the Oracle core factor table to the number of cores on your server(s).
  4. Find the current price for the processor license in the Oracle Technology Price List.
  5. Multiply the number of processor licenses by the price per license to determine the total cost for Oracle Database software.
  6. Don’t forget to factor in the annual technical support fee, which is typically a percentage of the software license cost. (22%)
  7. Compare the total cost to the value that the Oracle Database software will bring to your organization to determine if it is a worthwhile investment.
  8. Note that Oracle Technology pricing may change, so be sure to check the current price list before making a purchase.
  9. This guide only covers Oracle Technology pricing and does not apply to Oracle Java licensing.

Oracle Database Licensing and Pricing

  • Oracle Database Enterprise Edition: This is a high-end edition of the Oracle database that offers a range of features and capabilities for enterprise-level applications. It is usually more expensive than other editions due to its advanced features and scalability.
  • Oracle Database Standard Edition 2: This is a lower-priced edition of the Oracle database that is suitable for small and medium-sized businesses. It includes many of the core features of the Enterprise Edition but has some limitations on the size and number of databases that can be used.
  • Personal Edition: This is a lightweight edition of the Oracle database that is intended for individual users or small teams. It includes many of the core features of the Enterprise Edition but is not suitable for use in enterprise-level applications.
  • Mobile Server: This is a specialized edition of the Oracle database that is designed for use in mobile applications. It includes many of the core features of the Enterprise Edition but is optimized for use in mobile environments.
  • NoSQL Database Enterprise Edition: This is a specialized edition of the Oracle database that is designed for use in NoSQL environments. It includes many of the core features of the Enterprise Edition but is optimized for use in NoSQL environments.

Oracle Database License Cost

The cost of an Oracle database license depends on several factors, including the edition of the database, the number of users, and the type of license. The Oracle Technology Price List provides pricing for different editions of the Oracle database, as well as the annual maintenance fees that are required for software updates and support.

  • Named User Plus: This is the license fee for one Named User Plus. When licensing Oracle software, there are always minimum user requirements that must be met. For example, Standard Edition 2 requires a minimum of 10 Named User Plus per server, while Database Enterprise Edition is based on the number

.

The Software Update License & Support is an annual fee that Oracle charges for maintenance. It is typically equal to 22% of the license fees. If you receive a discount on your Oracle license, it will also apply to the annual maintenance fee.

The Oracle Processor License is the price for one Oracle processor license. It’s important to note that Oracle does not consider one physical Processor to equal one Oracle processor license. There is a specific calculation used to determine how many Oracle processor licenses are needed.

The Software Update License & Support works the same way for both named user plus and Oracle User License Agreement (ULA). If you are subjected to an Oracle license audit and are required to purchase licenses, Oracle will typically charge the list price plus backdated support as a penalty fee.

Oracle Database Enterprise Edition Options

  • Multitenant: Allows you to store multiple databases in a single container database, simplifying consolidation and management.
  • Real Application Clusters: Provides high availability and scalability for mission-critical databases.
  • Real Application Clusters One Node: Provides high availability and scalability for mission-critical databases in single-node configurations.
  • Active Data Guard: Provides read-only access to a physical standby database, allowing you to offload queries and reporting to a secondary server.
  • Partitioning: Allows you to divide a large table or index into smaller pieces, improving manageability and performance.
  • Real Application Testing: This allows you to test changes to your database without affecting production systems.
  • Advanced Compression: Provides advanced data compression techniques to reduce storage and I/O requirements.
  • Advanced Security: Provides advanced security features such as data masking and encryption.
  • Label Security: Allows you to implement fine-grained access control based on data labels.
  • Database Vault: Provides additional security controls to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.
  • OLAP: Provides tools for online analytical processing, allowing you to analyze data in real time.
  • TimesTen Application-Tier Database Cache: Provides a high-speed in-memory database cache for Java applications.
  • Database In Memory: Allows you to store data in memory, providing faster access and processing.

An Oracle license price example:

To calculate the cost of Oracle Real Application Clusters licenses, follow these steps:

  1. Determine the number of Named User Plus licenses needed: 200
  2. Multiply the number of licenses by the license price per user: 200 * $460 = $92,000
  3. Calculate the support fees: 200 * $101.20 = $20,240
  4. Add the license fees and support fees to get the total cost: $92,000 + $20,240 = $112,240

Note that this calculation is based on the assumption that the prices listed in the Oracle Technology Price List are current and accurate. It is important to check the latest price list to ensure you have the most up-to-date pricing information. Additionally, this calculation only applies to the Real Application Clusters option and does not include any other Enterprise Edition options or Oracle Database products.

Verrazzano Enterprise Container

  • Verrazzano Enterprise Container Platform is licensed on a per-processor basis and is only available as an annual subscription.
  • All processors on nodes in Kubernetes clusters where Verrazzano images are pulled must be counted when determining the number of subscriptions required.
  • If a Kubernetes node is a virtual machine, the number of processors on that node is subject to the guidelines in the Oracle Partitioning Policy.
  • Nodes in a Kubernetes cluster used as a dedicated Verrazzano Admin cluster can be excluded from the processor count if no managed workloads are run in that cluster.
  • The Verrazzano Enterprise Container Platform Annual Subscription includes the right to use the specified program and receive Oracle Software Update License & Support services for the specified time period.
  • The subscription is effective on the date of the ordering document unless otherwise stated.
  • At the end of the subscription, it can be renewed at the current fees, or the right to use the program will terminate, and the software must be de-installed. Reactivation of the subscription may be subject to reinstatement fees.

Oracle Mobile Suite Technology

To license Oracle Mobile Suite Technology, you will need to use Processor licensing for Mobile Suite and Named User Plus licensing for the clients. In addition, there is a licensing requirement for each application developed. This means that there are three different licensing metrics to consider when licensing Mobile Suite Technology. The Oracle Mobile Suite Client Runtime and Mobile Application Framework require that the end users of each developed application be counted for licensing purposes, regardless of the mobile application development tool or framework used.
